Thursday December 13, 2018-President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday shocked the nation after he presided over the 55^th Jamhuri Day while donning military regalia.

However, Uhuru’s military attire did not sit down well with controversial lawyer and socio-political commentator, Miguna Miguna, who took umbrage at what the President wore for the occasion.

According to Miguna, Uhuru’s military attire was nothing short of Halloween costume, because the President himself is not a military man, has never even been to the National Youth Service or even Boys Scouts.

He said the regalia means nothing, especially to a civilian like Uhuru Kenyatta.

"The Tyrant Uhuru Kenyatta in Halloween Costume (he has never even been a member of the NYS or Boy Scouts, leave alone the military and he is ignorant of the fact that JAMHURI is a CIVILIAN EVENT; not a military/authoritarian one )," Miguna Miguna's post read in part.

Quantitative and Qualitative Field Interviewers for A Research Project

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that undertakes policy relevant research on education, health, population, and development issues facing sub-Saharan Africa, and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.

APHRC invites applications for quantitative and qualitative field interviewers for an upcoming study that aims to understand the process and dynamics of gender socialization in the school environment; and the association between gender norms and sexual and reproductive health related behavior, knowledge and attitudes among very young adolescents. The study will be conducted in Korogocho and Viwandani at the beginning of 2019.

To implement the study, the Center is seeking to recruit qualitative and quantitative fieldworkers who met the criteria below:

Minimum qualifications required for quantitative interviewers:

· Have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education certificate, with a minimum grade of C+;

· Proven experience in quantitative research data collection; prior experience in research involving adolescent will be an added advantage

· Fluent in English and Kiswahili, in both oral and written form

· Familiarity and proficiency in mobile data collection, especially use of Open Data Kit (ODK) or Survey CTO

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Knowledge of/experience working in Korogocho and Viwandani will be an added advantage

· Is available to work full time for the duration of the project

· Is flexible and available to work odd hours (when necessary), under minimum supervision

Job Description (responsibilities) for quantitative interviewers:

· Conduct interviews on all recruited study participants

· Complete, edit and submit all interviews for cross-checking and verification by the supervisor.

· Keep updated records and databases of assigned work.

· Other related activities, assigned by the supervisor and project manager.

Minimum qualifications required for qualitative:

· A first degree in Public Health or any other Social science or Health related field

· Fluent in English and Swahili, in both oral and written form

· Have proven experience and skills in qualitative research work, especially in research involving adolescents

· Have proven experience and skills in participatory research methods, and mainly use of Photovoice

· Can facilitate interviews and group discussions in English and Swahili

· Has experience in note taking during qualitative discussions

· Has strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Knowledge of/experience working in Korogocho and Viwandani will be an added advantage

· Is available to work full time for the duration of the project

· Is flexible and available to work odd hours (when necessary), under minimum supervision

· Facilitate/moderate focus group discussions with parents/guardians of adolescent girls and boys

· Take notes and compile comprehensive qualitative interview debriefing notes / reports

· Facilitate/moderate photovoice activities

· Prepare data collection progress updates and reports

· Other related activities, assigned by the supervisor and project manager

Thursday December 13, 2018-President Uhuru Kenyatta received a thunderous welcome to the lakeside city of Kisumu, the first visit ever since the dramatic handshake with Opposition leader, Raila Odinga.

The Head of State had the opportunity to address Kisumu residents through the sunroof of his vehicle as his convoy snaked through the lakeside city to Mamboleo Stadium where he launched the Universal Health Care.

In his address, he promised that he would not leave Raila Odinga behind and that the two would work together in building a corruption-free, inclusive Kenya.

"I have told my brother Raila that I will not leave him behind."

“We will walk together.”

“We will traverse Kenya together and preach unity," Uhuru said amid a rapturous applause.

Uhuru said all these in the presence of his Deputy, William Ruto, who is banking on the Kikuyu community to support his 2022 Presidential bid.

Thursday, December 13, 2018- Tanzanian hot-shot, Diamond Platinumz, recently announced that he plans to marry his Kenyan girlfriend, Tanasha Donna Oketch.

The Bongo Fleva star has slated the wedding on February 14^th 2019 - exactly one year since he was dumped by his baby mama, Zari Hassan.

The high-flying singer’s family members have welcomed his decision to finally settle down after sleeping with slay queens left, right and center.

However, his father seems to have been left out and has pleaded with Diamond to invite him to his big day.

The homeowner busted the hapless guy dangling on the window and decided to teach him lesson he will never forget.

From the video going viral on social media, the owner of the house used a bottle to discipline him as he cried for help.

Clearly, this guy’s proverbial 40 days had arrived and there was no way he was going to get away.

Thursday, December 13, 2018- The Grand Manor hotel in Gigiri is the latest multi-million property to face the wrath of the famous green bulldozer-Sany.

The property was brought down on Thursday morning, a day after aNairobi court issued orders allowing the Nairobi County Government to demolish the hotel as it posed a security threat due to its proximity to the United Nations office and United States Embassy.

The hotel belongs to Businessman Praful Kumar who was arrested a few months ago by Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) officers for allegedly attempting to bribe Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko with Ksh 5 million.

He was released on Sh500,000 bail or an alternative Sh 1 million bond with surety of a similar amount.

Mr. Praful wanted Governor Sonko to allow the construction of the hotel which had been stopped by the Nairobi County Government.

Thursday December 13, 2018-A woman who is accused of stabbing Vioja MahakamaniJudge, Jamal Nassul, to death has broken her silence over the incidence.

Speaking on the incident, Grace Kananu Namulo, revealed that she did not kill Jamal as is being alleged.

She explained that the KTN's Junior actor and Vioja Mahakamani Judge fell on the kitchen knife by accident and she tried to help him but it was too late.

“Mr. Jamal accidentally fell on the kitchen knife when the argument we were having got heated and I tried to help him but it was too late.”

“It’s not true that I killed him," she stated.

But according to the police report, the celebrated actor had an argument with his girlfriend who then drove a long knife into his chest. Jamal fell on the ground.

"It was reported that Jamal Nassul Gaddafi (39), was having a party at Arks Hotel near 67 Airport Hotel on the night of December 11, 2018. There was a quarrel between him and his friend Grace Kanamu Namulo (40). She picked a knife and stabbed him," read the police report.

Thursday December 13, 2018-Former President Daniel Moi was yesterday afternoon admitted to the Nairobi Hospital for a routine medical check-up that established the old man had some flu.

His physician, David Silverstein, said the former President will spend a couple of nights in the hospital as doctors’ check on his health.

"Dr Silverstein said the former President will spend a couple of nights in the hospital to accord the doctors enough time to carry out their investigations," a statement from Moi's office read.

Moi who celebrated his 94th birthday this year has maintained a low profile since he left office in 2002.

His last public appearance was on October 26, 2017, when he cast his vote at the Kabarak University polling station during the repeat Presidential election.

In March this year, Moi flew to Tel Aviv, Israel for a knee operation where he was accompanied by his son and Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi.

Friday, December 14, 2018-Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, hosted President Uhuru Kenyatta and other distinguished guests for breakfast at his Bondo home on Friday Morning.

President Uhuru is on a development tour of Kisumu where he received a warm reception thanks to his handshake with Raila.

Raila’s supporters flocked the streets and poured praises on Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday as his motorcade snaked through the lake-side city.

Raila shared photos receiving Uhuru after he landed at his Bondo home on Friday for breakfast saying, “Mama @IdaOdinga and I are pleased to host President @UKenyatta and other distinguished guests for breakfast at our home in Bondo this morning.
