Saturday, December 15, 2018 - Kenyans should avoid consuming imported fish from China if this laboratory analysis of samples of Chinese fish is anything to go by.
According to the Residue and Drug Analysis results of Chinese fish import samples taken to a local University’s laboratory confirmed residues of lead(0.04ppm) Mercury(o.oo5ppm) Arsenic (>0.001) and copper (1.2ppm)
The presence of heavy metals in these imported fish indicates that the ponds where they are bred are contaminated
The unregulated import of fish from China has seen local fishermen incur heavy losses and despite President Uhuru giving orders to relevant Government agencies to use all means including underhand tactics to keep away imported Chinese fish from the Kenyan market, it is business as usual.
Speaking recently during the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Presidential Roundtable at Strathmore University, the President said:
“Jameni, tunatoa samaki kutoka China… hata kama Finance Bill imepita, think out of the box, tunaweza kusema hiyo samaki ambayo imefika ni mbaya na unaifungia. Kuna njia nyingi serekali inaweza kufanya kazi. Ndio tuhakikishe watu yetu wamefaidika jameni,”
