Wednesday December 19, 2018 - According to a recent global survey conducted by Transparency International, Kenya’s Judiciary is one of the most corrupt Judiciaries in Africa.

Though Chief Justice David Maraga has been claiming that the report is a witch hunt, Transparency International says more than 80 percent of Judges and Magistrates in Kenya are corrupt.

To put Maraga to shame, United States's Criminal Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) are investigating a senior High Court Judge in Kenya in relations to drug trafficking offences.

Last month, CIA and FBI wrote to the Kenyan Government asking for the extradition of High Court Judge Enoch Chacha Mwita over links to the Akasha brothers who are being charged in the US with  drug trafficking offences.

Others who are being investigated over drug trafficking related offences include Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Najib Balala, Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi and Mombasa County Speaker, Aharub Ibrahim Khatri.

Ibrahim Khatri is a close ally of Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho.

Wednesday December 19, 2018 - A vicious war of words has erupted between Interior Coordination Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, and Deputy President William Ruto over multi billion tenders in the Interior Ministry.

For months, Ruto has been pushing to be awarded multi billion contracts together with his associates who have been looting the public coffers dry.

According to an impeccable source who is aware of the ongoings in the Ministry, last week, Ruto called Matiangi and asked him to award the tender for the supply of police uniforms to other people, not just the National Youth Service (NYS).

However, this phone call infuriated Matiangi and he later called a press conference on Tuesday and said he will not allow cartels to supply police uniforms.

Matiangi insisted that all uniforms will be made by the NYS as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“The Inspector General of Police, the PS and myself have been under pressure by some quarters, and all manner of thieves, that we should import police uniforms.

"Listen to me very carefully. We will not import police uniforms, go and write another 10 headlines. We will not import police uniforms from any country. We have to promote the local textile industry," Matiang'i said during a presser.

Following the confrontation, Ruto through his spokesman, David Mugonyi, dismissed the allegations and termed them as total nonsense.

“We are not aware of these claims and we urge Kenyans to ignore them,” Mugonyi told journalists at his office on Tuesday.

Wednesday, December 19, 2018- The new police uniform has divided opinion among Kenyans and it appears even some police officers are not looking forward to wear the royal blue regalia.

Celebrity cop Emma Wanjiru has voiced her disgust at the new look uniform after she took to Instagram to rejoice following the news that police may wait longer to get the new uniform due to shortage of the fabric and in-fighting between tender-preneurs keen to make a killing from its  supply.

“I was looking forward to wear[sic] the new uniform this Christmas but wait who am I kidding .” She joked sarcastically over the news of the delayed roll out of the uniform.

When President Uhuru unveiled the uniforms in September, the cop also took to Instagram to express her reservations.

She wrote: “Uuuummmm isorait. Change is inevitable. Nitajikaza tu #borauhai.”

Check out some of her photos rocking the eye-friendly uniform before they are faced out.

Thursday December 20, 2018-Deputy President William Ruto has vowed to personally fire a police officer who failed to deal with a defilement case that was reported in Kilifi earlier in December.

Speaking during a fundraising and the issuance of 800 title deeds at Mapimo grounds Gongoni in Magarini yesterday, a tough-talking Ruto stated that officers who engaged in corruption when dealing with defilement cases would be dismissed.

“It’s an abuse of office and totally unacceptable.”

“I would like to know the officer who failed to take action in a defilement case and I will take action and sack him tomorrow,” said Ruto.

He noted that inaction by law enforcers were a contributing factor to a surge of teen pregnancies in the county and promised to make an example out of those not doing their job.

"Any officer who will get information of defilement and fail to take action should get prepared to go home, whether it’s an assistant chief or police if you cannot protect the minors you have no business in the office,’’ he stated.

Thursday December 20, 2018-Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), George Kinoti, has narrated how he survived an assassination attempt when he tried to rescue a woman who was being robbed by thieves along Jogoo Road.

In an exclusive interview with a local daily, Kinoti said the date was May 13, 2006 when he was heading the dreaded Kanga squad.

Kinoti said like a commando he single-handedly confronted the robbers, oblivious of the danger that was lurking, as the two criminals were not alone.

He said five thugs pumped lead into his stomach, ripping apart his intestines. They also hit his legs.

"My intestines were on the tarmac and those who picked me up declared me dead. On arrival at the hospital, the nurses placed a tag on me saying 'dead'," Kinoti said.

He said he went for coma for days but God resurrected him from the dead and gave him a new lease of life.

"I engaged the five gangsters. I accepted to die but wanted to save the members of the public who had gathered there," the top detective said.

He concluded by saying the attack occurred when he was threatened with assassination for probing the attack on Prof Ngugi wa Thiong'o and his wife at Norfolk apartments in Nairobi.

Thursday December 20, 2018-A Makueni court has found the former bodyguard of Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr. guilty of shooting into a crowd and injuring one person.

While delivering judgement yesterday, Makueni Senior Principal Magistrate, James Mwaniki, convicted Shadrack Kioko Malekya, an administration police officer, for shooting into the crowd and injuring Mr. Brian Mutua, an assembly orderly, during a 2014 scuffle that occurred at the Makueni County Assembly premises.

The court heard that the bodyguard shot Mutua at a close range, evidence that made the judge single him out.

The judge ruled that Kioko could not justify the use of a firearm during the incident where he injured the orderly on his stomach.

However, three of the co-accused were lucky to be released with the judge finding that they were justified to use their weapons as the crowd which had accompanied Governor Kivutha Kibwana posed a threat to the legislators.

Thursday December 20, 2018-Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), George Kinoti, has said he is still receiving death threats from criminals over the ongoing purge against graft.

In an exclusive interview with one of the major dailies on Tuesday, Kinoti said his agency has arrested senior corrupt state officers and they have been threatening him daily using SMSs and emails.

“The cases we have taken over from other agencies have been a bit challenging. We are raiding the archives which are securely insulated by their owners. It has not been easy to reach where we are,” Kinoti said.

He said that he doesn't fear death in the process of fighting corruption.

“I have seen death with my own eyes. If someone wants to shoot at me, let them go ahead if they so wish but it won't deter me. I have had bullets in my body,”

"They can poison me or do anything but let them know that death is our destiny and it is God who holds the destiny of men."Kinoti said.

When he was heading Kanga Squad in 2006, Kinoti was shot with 28 bullets when he tried to rescue a woman who was being robbed along Jogoo Road. He went for a coma for days.

Earlier while in a job mission in Migori County, thugs engaged Flying Squad officers and unfortunately Kinoti was pumped with 7 bullets on his legs. He was admitted at a Nairobi hospital for six months.

Thursday, December 20, 2018- Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos had a scary encounter with a drunk forest ranger who threatened to shoot him and his team.

The governor and his team were inspectingprojects in Cherang’any/Chebororwa Ward when they came face to face with the antagonistic officer.

The forest guard tried to prevent the governor from entering Takwei primary school arguing that it was located within the forest.

The school is next to the forest station where the officer is attached to.

“What do you want here?” the ranger asked the Governor and his team.

“If you go into the school, I will get my gun and shoot you”, threatened the guard while hurling insults at the county chief.

He then dashed to his house and returned, clad in uniform and armed with a G3 rifle.

However, his colleague reacted swiftly and disarmed him as he cocked the rifle and threatened to pull the trigger.

He was locked in the house and allowed to sober up as the stricken governor continued his mission.

“We can’t allow this to happen… how can we have security officers living in a school compound and getting so drunk in such a way,” said Tolgos, adding that he would raise the issue with the Kenya Forest Service and the police.

Meanwhile, North Rift KFS Enforcement Commander David Rono said investigations are underway.

“I have sent officers to the station to establish what happened. Disciplinary action will be taken against the officer,” he said.

Thursday December 20, 2018-Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), George Kinoti, has urged politicians from Rift Valley to stop politicising the ongoing fight against corruption.

For months, section of Rift Valley leaders led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen and his Nandi counterpart, Samson Cherargei, have been shouting that the ongoing purge is targeting a certain community.

But in an inclusive interview with one of the local dailies on Tuesday, Kinoti said those promoting the narrative of selective prosecution should take their evidence to court in their defence submissions.

“Why are they saying we are targeting people, some of whom we don’t know or have no issue with? Why can’t they give the defence information that they are targeted as a tribe and bring it as a formal argument? We are ready to counter it,” Kinoti said.

The top detective said shouting is useless since his office uses facts when arresting someone and no amount of intimidation will stop him and his boys from arresting thieves of public money.

“When we wake up every morning, we don’t know where we’re heading but are led by the facts we collect in the field. These facts are tested in court,” he said.

Thursday December 20, 2018-Cherangany MP, Joshua Kutuny, has said cartels led by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Mwangi Kiunjuri, are running the show at the Agriculture Ministry.

On Tuesday, Agriculture Principal Secretary, Hamadi Boga, issued a statement saying that the government had revised the price and it would buy maize from farmers to Ksh.3000 from Ksh.2300.

However some, few minutes later, Boga denied the report and insisted that the government will buy  a bag of maize at Sh 2300.

Boga said already the Cabinet had agreed on Sh 2300 price and as a Permanent Secretary he has no powers to change such a decision.

However, Kutuny, who was speaking in Saiwa, accused cartels for the mix up accusing Mr. Boga of having announced the new prices only for him to deny his own report.

The outspoken lawmaker said the government had failed to face the reality and pay farmers their dues and now the issue has been left to cartels to run the show in the ministry.

Thursday December 20, 2018-The County Assemblies Forum has told off Opposition leader, Raila Odinga, over his evil proposal that the number of Members of the County Assembly be reduced to guarantee success of devolution.

Led by Forum Chairman John Osoi, the MCAs criticised Raila’s sentiments, saying the country could afford to sustain the ward representatives.

“I would like to respectfully correct Baba that 1,450 electoral wards are the lowest we can get,” Osoi told Raila.

Osoi was reacting to Raila Odinga’s sentiments on Sunday where he argued that the huge number of MCAs was a burden to taxpayers because it led to a huge wage bill.

According to Raila, referendum was eminent to allow the public choose the number of MCAs to represent them, adding that a majority were not performing their duties effectively.

Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader, Abdi Guyo, observed that the country ought to either abolish the Senate or the County Assemblies in their entirety.
