Bodaboda operators in Matete, Kakamega County, on Saturday went on rampage protesting against harassment by a local chief.

Led by their chairman, Jacob Wekulo, they complained of levies and taxes the Silungai sub location assistant chief Harrison Muyundo has impossed on them. He has even put a roadblock along Silungai - Chepsaita road and they have to pay Sh. 50 each before using the route and anybody who does not comply with this is beaten by his goons.

One of the operators explained how he was attacked with pangas and threatened with death if he refuses to pay the levy. The operators complained of being extorted money saying that apart from the levy, they also pay Sh 30 to the County Government.

They now want the Lugari MP, Ayub Savula, and his Malava counterpart, Malulu Injendi, to intervene and take action against the Chief threatening to take the law into their own hands if they don’t do anything.

Efforts to get comments from the Assistant Chief were fruitless as his phone went unanswered.

A carpenter (in photo above) who lied that he lost his sight after drinking wine at Nyambare Shopping Centre, in Lari, Kiambu County was arrested on Saturday morning by police for lying to the public.

31 year old Michael Kamau claimed that he had gone blind after drinking - a lie he made up out of jealousy to have the bar owner arrested.

Deputy OCS, Sharamo Roba, and other police officers decided to take him to a hospital for treatment but immediately he saw the police car, he changed his statement and said he could see again.

That was when they discovered that he had cooked up the whole story because there was rivalry between bar owners in the area and one of them bribed Kamau to lie about the other.

The area divisional police boss, Alfred Makoma, said that Kamau will be charged for providing misleading information to the police.
