Background information
 
The IIRR is an international development, research and training organization with over 80 years of grassroots experience working in peoplecentered and sustainable development programs in Africa and Asia. 

IIRR is well reputed for its knowledge management capacity through documentation of best development-oriented practices, and is seeking to strengthen Africa program activities by appointing a Regional Reproductive Health Project Coordinator. 

Regional Reproductive Health Project Coordinator 
 
(Based in Kenya)

Job Summary
 
The Reproductive Health Project Coordinator  will report to the Africa Regional Director is responsible for providing technical support and capacity building of the team for successful planning and implementation of programme activities. 

S/he will be responsible for ensuring management of the Reproductive Health programme is executed in the three countries (Uganda, South Sudan and Ethiopia) line with donor guidelines with the assistance of the Regional Director and the respective Country Directors. 

This position demands an ability to manage, organize and support all aspects of the programme; including other agency liaison, training and supervising staff.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance, training, resources and tools to RH related staff at country level and field sites.
  • Ensure documentation of best practices, innovation and experience and dissemination, knowledge, and use by IIRR and partners;
  • Aggregate data, analyze data and present in user-friendly format for distribution to relevant representatives;
  • To assess the training needs of staff and develop a training programme to meet these needs;
  • Ensure the establishment and strengthening or RH monitoring activities and train health staff (IIRR and partners) in emergency obstetric case detection and referral mechanisms;
  • To liaise, according with the Ministry of Health, Private sectors and other agencies to ensure appropriate provision of service and use of resources;
  • To keep Country SRHR officers appraised of all activities and any difficulties that may arise;
  • To report properly and in an appropriate time all relevant RH information required for the comprehensive development of the PHC program;
  • Maintain proper systems of filing and ensure that the Project office has all relevant technical material on site.
  • Prepare high quality and timely donor and management reports on grants and RH activities;
  • Design and implement appropriate RH monitoring and evaluation systems; ensure consistent reporting and analysis of results to enhance program effectiveness and quality;
  • Ensure compliance with IIRR policy and procedures throughout the program team and activities;
  • Research and communicate new approaches and best practices in RH programming; act as IIRR representative in related RH in regional and international forums and initiatives;
  • Identify programmatic gaps in the country programs and make recommendations on addressing them;
  • Take on other special projects as negotiated with supervisor.
Qualifications:

Training in Public Health with a demonstrable technical expertise and working knowledge of Reproductive Health.

Experience:
  • At least 3 years progressive public health related international field experience in RH in developing countries with a strong knowledge  in family planning;
  • Proven writing and editing skills, including the ability to write grant proposals and reports;
  • Experience in designing and implementing trainings and TOTs and conducting M&E activities;
  • Experience in representation and interaction with donors, government officials, international organizations, and NGO representatives concerning health issues and initiatives in complex humanitarian emergencies;

Reproductive Health Project Officers 

(Three Positions)
 
(Based in Ethiopia, Uganda & South Sudan)

Job Summary
 
Health is a basic right for all. Health impacts on work, school and family life. 

The Reproductive Health Project Officers will play the vital role of coordinating and facilitating implementation of Sexual and Reproductive Health activities with a particular focus on women and youth work activities. 

S/he will liaise with other partners in providing information and access to information on family planning and the delivery of services at community facilities. 

The Reproductive Health Project Officers will report directly to the Program Managers at Country level on management issues and technical matters to the Reproductive Health project Coordinator.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
  • At country level, Coordinate assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation of innovative RH interventions in community settings
  • Developing culturally-appropriate SRHR education materials
  • Ensure that IIRR SRHR program is working to improve quality and scale up of RH services including support for postnatal contraception counseling particularly for youths (female and male)
  • Plan and prepare proposals for potential program/donor funding and/or contribute to health program proposal development as well as budgeting.
  • Conduct situational analysis on unmet needs in Reproductive Health particularly amongst vulnerable youth and women in targeted communities and work with the rest of the health team to design and implement innovation approaches to address these.
  • Mobilize the target communities and help create/strengthen CBOs relevant for the promotion and provision of SRHR products and services. 
  • Ensure that all RH Documentation of best practices.
  • Ensure that there is community advocacy mobilization being conducted by partners to support the uptake of RH services
  • Ensure planning and preparation of monthly and quarterly activities and reports
Qualifications:

A first degree with experience in public health, health education, communications, behavioral or social sciences, or related field

Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience desired in areas of public health, sexual health, or sexuality.
  • Experience in planning, providing and coordinating sexual and reproductive health projects and trainings a plus
  • Experience working in both hospital and community settings is an advantage;
  • Prior experience working in the project target areas is a plus
  • Knowledge of the local language in the project area is a plus
