Sunday, January 06, 2013-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to bolster his midfield options and has identified Wigan Athletics’ 22-year old midfielder as a transfer target.
Reports indicate that the Gunners boss will test the Latic’s resolve to keep midfielder James McCarthy with an initial bid reported to be in the region of £8m.
The summer departure of midfield enforcer Alex Song and niggling injuries to French international Abou Diaby have left Arsenal bare in the midfield department with Francis Coquellin still learning his trade and Wenger reckons McCarthy will be a welcome addition to his charges.
The North London club are also keeping close tabs on versatile Montpellier captain Yanga-Mbwia and Spain strikers Adrian Lopez and David Villa
Arsenal however, face competition from Merseyside clubs Liverpool and Everton who are also reported to be keen on securing the signature of the Republic of Ireland star but it remains to be seen if Wigan who are struggling to remain in the top flight will sanction the sale of one of their stand out players mid way through the season.
