Saturday, the 12th of January 2013 - News just in indicates that President Mwai Kibaki has today refused to assent to two bills that would have awarded MPs hefty send of packages of Ksh 9.3 million each and other attractive perks like personal body guards, VIP passes to all of Kenya’s airport lounges and the right to a state funeral.

By refusing to sign the Retirement Benefits (Deputy President & designated state officers) Bill, Kibaki has also rejected his own send of package of Ksh 25 million and a pension of one million shillings for every month of his life outside State House.

The President’s decision not to assent to the Bills comes just one day after Attorney General Githu Muigai assured the nation that he would be advising the President not to sign the Bills because they are unconstitutional.

The MPs handsome pay off had also been opposed by most of the Presidential aspirants like Peter Kenneth (the first to do so), Raila Odinga, Martha Karua and Uhuru Kenyatta.
