Thursday, the 28th of March 2013 - Jubilee Coalition supremos Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto must surely be smiling to themselves right now after candidates affiliated to the coalition won all the four Speaker and deputy Speaker’s posts in the Senate and Parliament.

Ekwe Ethuro started things off in the morning when he won the Speaker’s post in Senate with 38 votes to Farah Maalim of ODM’s 29. Kembi Gitura’s victory soon followed in the race to become the Senate’s deputy Speaker’.

Uhuru and Ruto were on hand at the KICC to watch Ethuro (URP) and Gitura (TNA) get sworn in.

The real battle for supremacy was in the National Assembly though where former Speaker of the House Kenneth Marende put up a brave fight but was ultimately defeated by former Siakago MP Justin Muturi.

The victory that Jubilee will really savor though is the one that saw Dr Joyce Laboso beat ODM’s Abdi Kadir Aden with 254 votes to 90 – a whitewash by any standard.
