Sunday, March 31, 2013 - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted he was shocked to learn of Abou Diaby’s latest injury set back where the France international will be sidelined for up to nine months.
However, Wenger has called upon the 26-year old midfielder not to give up on his career after he ruptured cruciate ligaments last week and he is due to undergo surgery.
Diaby’s six years at north London have been characterized by a series of injuries but Wenger has encouraged him to keep fighting.
Speaking to the club’s official website Wenger said: “It was a major shock. We thought it was only a little twist of the knee but then fins it’s ruptured.
“It’s very demoralizing for Abou and he is quite down.
“He’s had a number of injury problems. But I hope he will not give up.
Diaby is expected to be back in action early 2014 the same year his Arsenal contract runs out at the Emirates and it remains to be seen if he will be given another deal.
