Saturday April 27, 2013 - Renowned tech blogger Robert Alai is currently swimming in murky waters after Safaricom Ltd sued him for posting online articles perceived to injure the company’s reputation.
The company, through its lawyers filed a case in court, requesting the court to order Alai, to pull down two “offensive” articles he is alleged to have posted online.
The lawyers also requested the court to restrain Mr Alai from further publishing on the internet the perceived libellous articles.
The controversial articles which the company wants removed, according to the claim are titled “SafaricomNow Retiring and Muzzling Call Centre Staff impaired by Cheap Handsets,and “Another Chilling Letter from a Safaricom Call Centre Staff”.
The case will be heard on May 6.
Mr Alai, who was the social media campaigner for Raila Odinga in the last poll, has other pending court cases, which he is accused of defaming the names of some Senior Government Officials.
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Cabinet Secretary Francis Kimemia have also sued Mr Alai for defamatory tweets and articles.
