Tuesday, the 30th of April 2013 - In a surprising turn of events, the leadership of the outlawed Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) has come out to accuse police officers at the Coast of using them as scapegoats to cover up their failure of dealing with the region’s security problem.
Terming the actions of the police ‘propaganda’ the MRC members led by the groups secretary-general Randu Nzai Ruwa denied allegations by Kisauni OCPD Julius Wanjohi’s that they were behind the Saturday attack on Frere Town Police Booth that left one officer badly injured;
The MRC leaders said that the police’s readiness to blame the MRC was giving a cover for other elements to commit crimes with impunity.
The MRC leaders now want the police to take charge of the security situation;
“Coast is known for its peacefulness and hospitality but what is happening now calls for thorough screening of everybody to arrest the real perpetrators of heinous activities.”
The statement from the MRC comes as Nyali MP Hezron Awiti Bolo called for the Government to have talks with the MRC;
“It is time we us leaders sit down with this group and resolve the issues affecting them because we cannot continue like this,” he said.
