Tuesday, August 07, 2012 – A brother and sister are being held by police in Kakamega for hacking their mother to death, after she denied sharing with them her deceased husband’s pension.
Elizabeth M’mbone’s son, a security guard at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and her 27 year old sister were yesterday arrested after police received information from neighbors that the two had visited their mother on Sunday before the incident occurred.
According to a police report, a neighbor who had gone to the homestead to buy milk on Sunday found M’mbone’s badly mutilated body at the house’s sitting room. The police in were alerted of the incident and picked the body.
A neighbor said the family has been having misunderstandings after the company where their deceased father was employed started sending pension benefits to the deceased’s account.
M’mbone, 53 received the money leading to tension between the family. Her son however pled with M’mbone to share the money equally between themselves but she refused saying she was entitled to her husband’s money.
M’mbone’s daughter and son travelled to Muraka village on Sunday and beat their mother with crude weapons and stones to death. They dumped the woman’s body in the living room and escaped.
Police said they will arraign the two in court over the week and will be charged with murder.
