Friday December 7, 2018-President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday held talks with US Assistant Secretary for Bureau of African Affairs, Tibor Nagy, in State House, Nairobi.

The talks centered on bilateral ties between Kenya and the United States of America. Other issues discussed include strategic partnership, regional security, trade and investment.

During the meeting, Uhuru told Nagy that Kenya and the US faced similar threats and welcomed the cooperation that the two countries had cultivated over the years in dealing with security challenges, including the Al-Shabaab threats.

He also expressed the need for Kenya and the US to strengthen their trade and investment ties, saying the potential for cooperation in that area was not fully exploited.

“We have a strong strategic partnership on other spheres but on the economic side, it is not as strong as it should be,” Uhuru said.

Nagy is in the country to meet Uhuru on behalf of US President Donald Trump. He will also visit Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea before flying to Stuttgart, Germany, where he will meet the United States Africa Command.

Friday December 7, 2018-A section of Ford Kenya delegates now wants the party's National Executive Council (NEC) to expel the Deputy Party leader, Bonny Khalwale, from the party for his allegiance to Deputy President William Ruto.

Led by Trans Nzoia FK executive secretary Dr. Andrew Wafula, the delegates accused Khalwale of undermining the party leadership and the Presidential quest of party leader, Moses Wetangula.

They noted that Khalwale had no business in the party since he is busy campaigning for Ruto and Jubilee Party.

"His allegiance to another political party and the DP is a disrespect to the party leadership.”

“He cannot pretend to be in FK when he is busy campaigning for the DP.”

“We do not need him in the party," said Wafula during a press conference in Kitale.

They branded Khalwale as a rebel and a masquerader adding that he should not be allowed to ruin Wetangula's political ambitions.

"He is a betrayer and is chasing his personal interest and we do not want him to ride in our party for personal gains.”

“He should cease to be part deputy leaders and member of the party," one of the delegates said.

"He is a gun for hire. He has been employed to weaken and kill our party by some Jubilee Party strategists and we are demand for his exit before he strikes,” another one added.

Friday December 7, 2018 -Narc Kenya Leader, Martha Karua, has responded to a proposal to be Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana’s as running mate during the 2022 Presidential race.

Venting on social media, Karua rejected the idea of being Kibwana’s running mate saying she is more than capable of being President by herself.

She stated that she had a lot of respect for Governor Kibwaba based on what he has achieved in Makueni but maintained that women were capable of holding senior positions other than just deputizing.

“I have a lot of respect for Governor Kibwana and his leadership ability but kindly note that deputy is not a woman's first name," Karua replied to a user who had pledged allegiance to support the pair in the 2022 polls.

A social media user by the name Paul Muiruri had opined that if and when Kibwana decides to run as the next President with Martha Karua as his able deputy, he is assured of his vote and those of many Kenyans to value morality.

Friday December 7, 2018– The 14-seater matatus have only 2 months to operate on Kenyan roads after which they would be phased out.

This was announced by Transport Cabinet Secretary, James Macharia, on Friday.

Speaking while unveiling a new plan that will see 14-seater matatus kicked out of roads, Macharia said that the first consignment consisting of 11 trains and 64 high-capacity buses are set to hit the country in February 2019 to ease the congestion on Kenyan roads and there will be no need for the 14-seaters matatus which are prone to causing traffic jams.

“Plans are underway for the implementation of an integrated train and high-capacity bus transport system in Kenya,” said Macharia.

According to the CS, the plan will be rolled out in a period of three years and will be done in the three Kenyan cities, Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.

This comes even as matatu operators whose license-renewal applications have been denied by the Transport Licensing Board (TLB) expressed fears that the new roll out may also target 25 and 35-seater matatus.

“We know that the scheme also involves phasing out the 25 and 35-seater matatus from the roads.”

“These plans involve some cartels who want to benefit from these BRT buses.”

“Some of our members who have sought renewal of their TLB licences have been turned away.”

“We believe this is part of the move to implement the Government’s plan to phase out matatus,” said the association’s chairman, Calvin Nyaure.
