Thief escapes DEATH NARROWLY from an angry mob in Malaba

Tuesday 2nd April 2013-A 30 year old man yesterday escaped death narrowly at Malaba border when angry members of the public wanted to lynch him after he was caught trying to escape with a stolen bull.

The mob ambushed and frog matched Bernard Okwinyi in Korisai Village of Teso North to Malaba police station with the stolen bull.

It is alleged that the most wanted suspect, went to the home of Mr. Michael Ikomol in Korisai Village and stole his bull before he was caught by members of the public.

 Mr. Ikomol said that he realized his bulls were being stolen and decided to lay a trap that day. He went out at 5am for a call of nature and found out his cattle’s boma fence cut.

He screamed and alerted the neighbors who came to his aid.He said that the suspect was in the company of two others who managed to escape following the commotion of the residents who arrived at the scene.

The charged crowd beat him up with crude weapons but was rescued by security officers who arrived at the scene and saved him from the hands of public who vowed to teach him a lesson.

Confirming the incident, Teso Police Boss Elphas Korir said that the man had been treated and was being held at Malaba Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court and charged.

Korir however warned residents to desist from taking the law into the own hands, calling upon them to forward suspects to police stations and relevant authorities.

The OCPD said that police have launched a manhunt for the two other suspects, assuring residents that they will be brought to book very soon.
