Tuesday, April 23, 2013 - Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Robin Van Persie has made a greater impact at the club compared to club legend Eric Cantona.

The Dutch international scored a hat-trick inside 31 minutes to help United thump Aston Villa 3-0 on Monday night that saw them win a record 20th Championship.

Van Persie who cost United £24m from rivals Arsenal last summer has scored 24 goals which translates to one £1m per goal and with the remaining four games he is likely to score more.

And Sir Alex Ferguson maintains that the 29-year-old, who has now scored 28 goals for the club since joining in the summer, has made a bigger impact on a title-winning campaign than any other player.

Speaking to ESPN Ferguson said: "I think Robin is such a great player for Arsenal and when great player became available and you feel United should have him you have to go for him.

"I think we had an expectation of him - his performance last season was incredible.

"I remember Arsene saying 'he's a better player than you think.' I knew he could gel into the team.

"He has been unbelievable. His early form that first six months was fantastic. He hit that spell where he hadn't scored a goal and every striker has a dry spell but when he scored that penalty kick at Stoke I thought, he's alive now and today he was unbelievable."

Van Persie now tops the goal scoring chart in the Premier League and is on course to defend his PFA Player of The Year Award.
