Man City will sign NEW PLAYERS SOON - Mancini

0
0

Saturday, the 28th of July 2012 - Manchester City Manager Roberto Mancini has revealed that the club is planning to sing several new players in the next two weeks to boost its chances of retaining the Premier League title.

The club’s delay in signing new players is mostly due to the fact that it has been unable so far to offload players which might put them in a tight spot if UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules pass.

Even despite these real concerns, Mancini is confident that the club will be able to bring on a few new faces in the coming days;

"It's important to change some players in some positions," Mancini said. "If we are going to have a winning mentality and we want to win, it is important.

"We won the last championship and we have a good team, but this year will be harder because, when you win, the problem is to win again. For this reason I think that we need to improve our team with maybe some new players.

"I'm sure that maybe in the next two weeks we can do something about new players. We are talking to some players, but the market is not easy. It's difficult, and for this reason we need more time."

Asked about the exact number of players the club will sign, Mancini gave a cryptic answer;

"We have a lot of players - I don't think we need ten new ones. We need to improve some positions, but I won't say two, three, one. Any new player must come here and help the team improve."

Raila supports ruling on MRC

Saturday, the 28th of July 2012 - Prime Minister Raila Odinga has applauded a ruling by the High Court in Mombasa that reversed the government’s decision to declare the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) an illegal organisation.

Raila was however quick to add that the ruling did not mean that the court had rubber-stamped MRC’s push to get the Coast province to secede from Kenya.

Raila made these comments while at the same time reinterring his call for dialogue between the government and the MRC;

“They should renounce their demands for secession and dialogue with government. The court said that the Mombasa Republican Council should apply for formal recognition and pursue their interests within the law,” he said.

The PM added that the MRC’s grievances should be taken seriously since they are replicated in other regions of the country;

“The same situation is in North Eastern Province, Turkana, Pokot, Samburu and Marakwet. There are even landless people in Central Province,” he said.

“Let us come up with a blueprint for development of the Coast region and ensure that its problems are addressed,” he concluded.

Raila spoke as DPP Keriako Tobiko revealed that the High Court’s ruling on the MRC’s had impacted some of the cases that the government has on its members;

“Obviously the judgment has a significant bearing on many ongoing prosecutions relating to the Mombasa Republican Council,” said Mr Tobiko.

“But the High Court decision was clear that the judgment did not grant a license to people to engage in criminal activity. Some cases are based on criminal acts such as disrupting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission mock voting exercise or snatching guns from policemen, and these can still be sustained.”

Liverpool’s Gerrard happy about Lucas return

Saturday, the 28th of July 2012 - Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has revealed his excitement about the return of midfielder Lucas Leiva who has been confirmed to be part of Liverpool’s squad for the 2012-2013 season after returning from a long injury spell.

The 25 year old signed to Liverpool in 2007 but had not shown great promise until last season when he was unfortunately sidelined by an injury to his cruciate ligament.

Some pundits have linked Liverpool’s struggle for consistency in the second half of last season to the Brazilian’s absence and team captain Steven Gerrard is inclined to agree with them;

"It was a big factor, because when he got the injury he was probably our best player, form-wise," said Gerrard.

"He was playing superbly well, and he plays that position in the team where he does the ugly work, the work you don't really like to do: breaking up the play, protecting the back four, and when we lose the ball and teams counter-attack, he stops a lot of goals.”

"It's great to have him back. He's a great person; he's great for the squad."

Gerrard also has no doubt that the Brazilian can once again endear himself to the Liverpool fans;

"You've got to come through the lows, and it was certainly a low for Lucas when the fans weren't giving him the backing," Gerrard added.

"All the players stuck with him because you could see it in training and in parts of his game that he was a young lad who was always going to come good.

"Credit to him - he rolled his sleeves up, he worked hard, he hit the gym and got himself stronger physically and it's turned around for him."

"I am looking forward to it. I like the responsibility and it's a thing I've been doing all my life," said Torres.

Adding;

"I think Didier did everything for this club, scoring the winning goal in the Champions League was an inspiration for us.”

The Spaniard also revealed that he is aware of the massive expectations on the club now that they are the defending European champions;

"It was an amazing summer for us, especially for Juan Mata and me who won the Champions League with the team and then were with the Spanish team and won in Europe, which means everything," he said.

"We know we have big expectations this season, there are a lot of trophies to win and we are ready for the challenge. I am sure it is going to be a good season."

Saturday, the 28th of July 2012 - The England FA has charged Chelsea skipper John Terry for his alleged ‘abusive and threatening behaviour’ towards QPR defender Anton Ferdinand. Terry beat a criminal charge surrounding the same events barely a month ago but the accusations of racism continue to dog him.

The players are said to have a run-in on the pitch during a match between the two EPL sides on the 23rd of October. The new charges from the FA are believed to be he FA’s attempt to clarify the matter and to show that it is taking a tough stance against racism in the EPL. A statement from the FA read;

"After seeking advice from an external Independent QC, and having considered the evidence and Magistrates' Court decision in the John Terry case, The FA has today charged the Chelsea player following an alleged incident that occurred during the Queens Park Rangers versus Chelsea fixture at Loftus Road on 23 October 2011.

"It is alleged that Terry used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand, contrary to FA rules.

"It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Anton Ferdinand.

"This charge is the result of The FA's long-standing enquiries into this matter, which were placed on hold pending the outcome of the criminal trial, and relates to rules governing football only.”

The FA however made sure to clarify that Terry still remains available to play for England;

"During this period John Terry remains available to play for England.

"Terry has until 3 August 2012 to respond.

"The FA will make no further comment during this time."

Terry has issued a quick rejoinder, saying;

"I deny the charge and I will be requesting the opportunity to attend the commission for a personal hearing."

Costa Rica’s Deputy Minister for Youth, Karina Bolanos, has been fired after a 56-second video of her lying on a bed in her underwear was posted on the internet. In the video, Bolanos was shown pointing at her breasts and inviting a man she refers to as ‘little one’ to join her.
The video which was ploaded onto YouTube over the weekend, quickly went viral, having been viewed by over one million people.
In her story, the fired lawmaker told CNN that the video was made years ago and was put onto the Internet by a computer engineer who stole it and was trying to extort money from her.
The incident has been described as an embarrassment to Costa Rican President, Laura Chinchilla, whose Cabinet, it was said, has suffered a string of resignations since she took power two years ago. Costa Rica’s Ministry of Culture and Youth has since released a statement which says that the video and other related legal issues have made Bolanos’ position untenable.

Teacher, 67, nabbed for raping 2 students decades ago

A retired teacher who told police he sexually assaulted two former students decades ago thought the statute of limitations had run out, but found out he was wrong - and found himself behind bars.

Donald Ingerson, 67, who taught in the St. Louis area from the 1960s through the 1990s before moving to Minnesota, first called St. Louis police in early June to tell them he had raped two girls - one in the 1970s and the other in the 1990s, authorities said. He met with them on Monday and spelled out his crimes, according to authorities.

"This is the first time we've had someone contact our office and say, 'I want to talk about what I did,' " St. Louis County prosecutor Bob McCulloch told reporters during a news conference.

Ingerson, who has been charged with rape and statutory sodomy, remains jailed on $300,000 cash bond after being arrested and charged Monday. He doesn't have an attorney, and McCulloch said the suspect seemed surprised to learn the statute of limitations had not expired in at least one of the cases. McCulloch also told reporters that he believes there could be other victims.

McCulloch said the first charge stems from an assault on a 16-year-old girl from around 1974 to 1976. The second involved a 15-year-old girl in 1995. McCulloch said the statute of limitations is 30 years, adding that that clock begins only after a minor becomes an adult. The statute of limitations for rape and sodomy varies because laws have changed over the years, he said.

Both victims have been informed of the arrest and are “quite relieved,” McCulloch said.

"Even after all this time, they seemed quite relieved," he said.

McCullough said he thinks the attacks happened outside of school grounds. Ingerson now lives in Ely, Minn., near the Canadian border.

A spokesman for the Ferguson-Florissant School District told the St. Louis Dispatch that Ingerson taught from 1987 through 2010 at McCluer High School in Florissant, Mo. The district had received no complaints pertaining to Ingerson, who had coached baseball, football and wrestling for the district.

Who is this MYSTERIOUS woman from INDIA

India have protested to London Olympic organisers after a mysterious woman gatecrashed their squad at the opening ceremony, media reports said on Sunday.

The unidentified woman, dressed in a red top and blue pants, was seen walking alongside India's flag-bearer Sushil Kumar at Friday's ceremony even though she was not part of the contingent.

India's acting chef-de-mission Muralidharan Raja slammed the intrusion, but stopped short of calling it a security breach even though the woman was not wearing the customary identification badge.

"She had no business being there. It was a clear case of intrusion," Raja was quoted as saying by the Times of India. "We are taking up the issue with the organisers.

"We don't know who she is and why she was allowed to walk in. It is a shame that she was walking with our athletes.

"I can't say that (if it was a security breach) as she was in a sanitised zone, but this was bizarre. We will ask for an apology.

"She embarrassed us in front of the world. The Indian contingent was shown (on television) for just 10 seconds, and to think this lady hogged all the limelight."

Raja, asked if he believed the woman was an Indian, said: "She could be Asian, Latin American, I don't know."

India has fielded its largest Olympic contingent of 81 athletes with hopes of bettering its Beijing Games tally of one gold and two bronze medals.

Dad hears gunshots, finds wife, 2 kids dead

A major case squad probing the shooting deaths of a suburban St. Louis mother and her two children unleashed more than 20 investigators Tuesday, but authorities who originally viewed the case as a murder-suicide said it was too early to draw any conclusions.

Glendale police Lt. Tim Fagan said Mitch Murch called police Monday after hearing gunshots inside the family's house. He told authorities he found the bodies of his wife and two children, all with gunshot wounds.

Catherine Murch, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene, and her two children were pronounced dead at hospitals. St. Louis County Medical Examiner Mary Case identified them as 10-year-old Mitchell Murch and 8-year-old Mary Claire Murch.

Police originally said the deaths were being investigated as a case of murder-suicide. Fagan said Murch has been interviewed and is cooperating with investigators. It wasn't immediately clear whether Murch had an attorney, but Fagan said police "don't consider him a suspect."

Murch did not immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press seeking comment.

Police originally said Murch was reading inside the home when he heard gunfire. He then found the bodies of his wife and son on the home's first floor and his daughter on the second level. First responders arrived at the home and found Murch trying to resuscitate his son.

The case squad issued a news release Tuesday saying that it had assigned more than 20 investigators to the case.

Fagan said the size of the probe was necessary to "get a very clear understanding of what happened."

The deaths shocked the affluent neighborhood, where the Murches' stately, two-story brick home sits on a large, neatly manicured lot. Court records show the Murches bought the home for $764,900 in 2007.

By Tuesday afternoon, ribbons had been placed on a tree in front. A lone vase of flowers was placed in the yard, near yellow tape that encircled the property.

Records show Catherine Murch graduated from the University of Missouri in 1992 with a degree in political science and received a nursing degree from Saint Louis University in 1994. Online records indicate she was a registered nurse.

Mitch Murch, 43, graduated from the University of Missouri, also in 1992. He owns a maintenance management company and is director of a business called The Maids International in Omaha, Neb., a cleaning company franchise, according to online records.

The family was active in Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in nearby Webster Groves. The children attended Mary Queen of Peace School, where Catherine Murch was a frequent volunteer. She was chairman for a committee preparing for an ice cream social in mid-August, according to the parish website.

A hurriedly-arranged memorial service was held at the church Monday night, hours after the shootings. The Archdiocese of St. Louis said in a statement that Mary Queen of Peace pastors were working with relatives and grieving parish members "to cope with the aftermath of this tragedy." Messages left Tuesday at the parish were not returned.

A Pakistani couple who murdered their teenage daughter in Britain has been sentenced to life.

The verdict given recently was based on the testimony of the girl's younger sister - the witness to her parents killing her older sister with a plastic bag in 2003.

According to a report in NDTV, Shafilea - who was "squeezed between two cultures - began rebelling against her parents' strict rules. She would hide western clotehs and make-up in her bag at school aand change into conservative clothes before her parents picked her up.

Following an argument about her dress, her parents pushed her down on a couch, stuffed her mouth with a plastic bag and held her hands over her mouth and nose until she died, testified Alesha.

In fact, in early 2003 she pleaded with authorities to allow her to move out of her parents' home because she alleged they were abusive and 'forcing her into an arranged marriage'.

Police outside Atlanta say a woman was beaten with a dog's body in what they call one of the worst cases of animal cruelty they've ever seen.

Sandy Springs police say 27-year-old Emmanuel Alfredo Tadeo faces animal cruelty and aggravated assault charges following a fight between him and his wife.

Capt. Steve Rose tells WSB-TV that Tadeo is accused of stomping on the couple's Pomeranian dog. Rose said Tadeo told police that he also snapped the dog's neck.

Rose said that at one point, Tadeo used the dog's body to strike his wife.

Police say the dog died. Prosecutors this week upgraded Tadeo's charges to felonies in connection with the May 19 incident. Fulton County Jail records do not indicate whether he has an attorney in the case.

Saturday, August 4, 2012 - A teacher from Igembe North District was ambushed by police while he was in class teaching. The teacher tried to resist but was beaten by the irate police officers who alleged that he was involved in a robbery incident in the area.

David Karanja, a primary school teacher at Kamweline Primary school caused havoc in the school as pupils and teachers demonstrated against the arrest of their dear teacher. Police retaliated by dispersing the primary school pupils with tear gas.

Witnesses said the teacher was in one of his classes teaching when the police stormed into the class and beat him before hand cuffing him. The pupils’ screams alerted the whole school and all pupils followed the police to Laare police station where he was being held.

The incident caught the attention of Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) Meru who say that the arrest was unjust. According to them, the police should have arrested the teacher outside the school and not humiliate him in front of his pupils.

SEX with my husband? PAY ME

0
0

A 34-year-old Gweru woman, Florence Nhokodi, who was recently ordered to pay $1 500 as adultery damages to her lover's wife has since approached the High Court challenging the ruling on the matter.

Nhokodi is a teacher based in Chegutu.

Mrs Tarisiro Janet Mapfumo of Mkoba Village 17, who is the plaintiff, had successfully sued Nhokodi for flirting and bearing two children with her husband, Mr Philip Mapfumo.

Mrs Mapfumo and her husband, Mr Philip Mapfumo, were married about 15 years ago under the then Chapter 37 marriage law.

In her appeal, Nhokodi is arguing that the ruling to pay Mrs Mapfumo the $1 500 was not justified.

"Be pleased to take notice that the appellant, being dissatisfied with the judgment of the magistrate that defendant is ordered to pay $1 500 as adultery damages to plaintiff delivered on 9 July 2012 hereby appeals against the judgment," read part of the appeal, which Nhokodi handed through her lawyers, Mr Hillary Garikayi of Garikayi and Company Legal Practitioners.

Nhokodi argued that she had been staying with Mr Mapfumo, an engineer with the National Railways of Zimbabwe, for 10 years with no woman claiming him as her husband.

"The learned magistrate ought to have realised that the 10 years appellant stayed with the man at the centre of the dispute without any woman claiming to be his wife actually confirmed what the man has told her that he was a divorcee," read part of the letter of appeal.

Mrs Mapfumo confirmed having received the letter of appeal from her rival, Nhokodi.

She, however, said she had already received part of the $1 500 money the magistrate awarded to her in the ruling.

"I am actually surprised that Nhokodi has taken the case further yet she has already deposited part of the money, which was awarded as damages. I will only wait to be informed and be guided by the courts on any new developments since the matter is now back before the courts again," she said.
