Saturday, August 04, 2012 - Two suspected robbers were yesterday lynched by a mob of irate residents who were angered by the fact that the robbers steal from them yet no action is taken by police in the area.

According to eye witnesses, the two robbers were among a gang of 6 that attacked a shop keeper in the area on Thursday night and managed to escape with one of them having a deep wound on his ear.

The gang split but two of them hid in the town’s proximity. Benson Mugambi together with other residents followed a trail of blood that started at the scene of the robbery to a rental building in the area where two were hiding.

Residents beat the two with crude weapons to death. Police in the area were alerted of the incident but arrived too late. They took the bodies to Embu District Hospital mortuary.

Mugambi told the media that the gang attacked him in his shop but only managed to steal Sh. 1,600.

He stabbed one of the gang members on the ear with a knife.

Man kills daughter-in-law over SUGAR

IN an incident that left residents of Bulawayo's Sauerstown suburb shocked, a man believed to be in his 70s allegedly killed his daughter-in-law during a fight over sugar. The amount of sugar involved could not be readily established.

Police confirmed the incident, which occurred along Palm Street on Tuesday afternoon.

The man, Jay McKop, has since been arrested. His daughter-in-law's name and age was not readily available yesterday.

The two were staying in the same house with the dead woman’s husband, Mr Randy McKop, and their minor children.

Sources said the woman entered her father-in-law's room where she took some sugar without his knowledge.

A war of words reportedly ensued between the two, with McKop demanding his sugar back.

This reportedly resulted in a physical fight as the now deceased took back the sugar.

Indications are that McKop allegedly pushed her against the wall and she fell and died a few moments later.

When Chronicle visited the suburb yesterday morning, a handful of neighbours had gathered at the house to console the family.

Members of the McKop family referred questions to the police, saying they were not prepared to talk about the issue.

Neighbours who opened up on condition that they remained anonymous, said the old man and his daughter-in-law did not get along.

Some said the woman and her husband were also having marital problems, which resulted in him sleeping in the cottage while she would put up in the main house.

A neighbour only identified as Mr Kunonga said they were still in shock and would rather not talk about the matter. "This is sad. You should have come yesterday and witnessed everything for yourself. Right now no neighbour can tell you anything because this matter is too sensitive. We have been neighbours with McKop for 30 years and we had never known him to be a problematic person neither did we have such cases in the suburb. We could not believe it when we heard that McKop’s daughter-in-law had died and he had killed her," he said.

Another neighbour said there were times when McKop and his daughter-in-law would engage in a fight at the family house. “McKop was a good man who everybody regarded as a loving person. He loved his grandchildren who included the late woman’s children. We are still in shock and cannot believe that he could do such a thing. The two always fought and we heard that yesterday they were fighting over sugar.

"It is not clear whether the woman entered her father-in-law’s room and took some sugar or she sent her child but we heard that they argued over the issue until McKop tried to take it back. In the process, he held her by the throat trying to choke her. He let go of her and as he walked away, she kicked him from behind and that is when the fight started. It is not clear how he killed her but we heard that he pushed her against the wall and she fell down," said the neighbour.

Another neighbour said: "Last year, the woman and her father-in-law quarrelled and she smashed his household property. At one point she jumped over the precast wall and was spotted by children trying to cut her baby’s wrist with a blade.

Yesterday we just saw an ambulance parked in front of the gate and as we were still wondering who could be ill, we then heard that McKop had killed his daughter-in-law."

The woman’s mother could only say: "I am failing to believe what happened. I cannot continue narrating this issue because it is like opening up old wounds."

Acting provincial police spokesperson for Bulawayo Assistant Inspector Bekimpilo Ndlovu said investigations were still in progress.

“We are handling a case of suspected murder that occurred in Sauerstown on Tuesday. We have picked one person in connection with the case and he is assisting police with investigations,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.

A Bulawayo man with a history of mental illness allegedly grabbed a woman who was relieving herself in a bush and dragged her to his house at knifepoint before raping her once.

This came to light yesterday at the initial appearance of Edison Chimusoro (37) of New Lobengula before Bulawayo magistrate Richard Ramaboea sitting at Western Commonage Magistrates' Courts. Chimusoro is facing rape charges. He was remanded in custody to August 16 and was ordered to be examined by two doctors in terms of the Mental Health Act.

The complainant told the court that when Chimusoro raped her he threatened her with death and told her he was not afraid of prison since he once served a jail term and showed her tattoos on his hand as evidence of his claims.

Fiona Ncube for the State told the court that on Wednesday at around 6am, the complainant was walking along a path in a bushy area. She left the path to relieve herself and at that point Chimusoro arrived and produced a knife threatening the complainant.

He allegedly grabbed her and led her to his house. On arrival, he forced her into his bedroom where he allegedly raped her once at knifepoint.

After finishing abusing her, Chimusoro threatened her with death and released her. The woman left for her home and then made a police report. Police took her to Chimusoro's house where he was arrested after she positively identified him

My husband has STARVED me SEX

A 24-YEAR-OLD woman of Lusaka’s John Laing Compound sparked uncontrollable laughter when she asked a Lusaka Boma Local Court to lock up her husband because he’s been refusing not only to have sex with her but also shaving her pubic hair.

Agnes Mutemba told Principal Presiding Magistrate (PPM) Regina Mwamba that her husband Isaac Tembo aged 32 has been starving her of sex for the past three months.

“This man is bad man. He is not like other men. He refuses to do his job in the bedroom. There has been no activity in our bedroom for the past three months. He sleeps with his ‘bombasser’ on instead of being naked.

“Apart from that, he has also been refusing to shave my pubic hair as our Zambian tradition demands.

“I have already brought him to court over this same problem. He said in court that he would start doing his job in the bedroom but to no avail. This is contempt of court. So, please punish him by sending him to prison for at least a month or two,” said Mutemba as the court audience burst into laughter.

Mutemba said this in a case in which Tembo sued her for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. They have been married for the past 8 years and have four children between them.

Mutemba who objected to the divorce application also added that most of their marital differences were because Tembo forces her to join his church which she says she can’t join because it was occult.

Earlier, Tembo asked the court to annul the marriage because he could no longer stand Mutemba’s behaviour.

He complained that Mutemba had become an alcoholic adding that when he discouraged her against the behaviour, she hired gangsters to beat him up. He narrated that the gangsters assaulted him with screw drivers and ended up knocking down one of his teeth.

He further complained that Mutemba throws stones at him whenever he declines to finance her drinking sprees.

And during cross examination, Tembo revealed that he does not have sex with Mutemba because of her disgusting behaviour.

“My not having sex with her is a way of protesting against her disgusting behaviour. I realised that if I continue sleeping with her, she would think I am happy,” he said.

When the court suggested the couple return and consider reconciling, Tembo vehemently denied but his wife welcomed the idea.

Passing ruling on the matter, PPM Mwamba dissolved the marriage. She said allowing the two to get back together would cause more serious problems because they no longer loved each other.

She ordered Tembo to pay Mutemba 8 million Kwacha as compensation and another K200,00 every month as child maintenance.

A 35-year-old man who chopped off his wife’s hands has been arrested in Isingiro in Uganda. Polly Namaye, the Police Spokesperson for South Western Region said the suspect,  Julius Kabagambe, 35, of Kalungu, Rushasha in Bukanga District attacked the victim, Katarina Tuzarirwe, 27  at her home on Friday at around 2:00am and chopped off her hands.

Namaye said the couple had divorced a year ago. She said the police acted fast and arrested the suspect as he fled the village. “We detained the suspect and later rushed the victim to Mbarara Hospital where she is nursing serious wounds,” she said.

Woman’s story

Tuzarirwe told this reporter on her hospital bed at Mbarara Referral Hospital that she divorced her husband in March last year after he married another man’s wife. “We were living in a happy relationship but after sometime, the man changed his mind and married another woman,” she said.

She said he  then chased her from their home and sold the land. She said that while she was at her parent’s home, she got rumours that her hubby was planning to attack her over allegations that she had turned into a prostitute.

“When he received those rumours, he called me and threatened to kill me,” she said. She said that on Friday morning, he called her saying he wanted to spend a night at their home to settle their differences in the presence of her parents.

“When he came, we welcomed him to our home and my parents suggested that he spends a night,” she said. This , as it turned out, was giving the devil abode.  While they were asleep, the man woke up and picked a quarrel with her. Amidst a struggle, she said, he picked a machete from under the bed and hacked of her hands like a bunch of bananas. “He then disappeared to the home of a neighbour where he was arrested the following day,” she said tearfully.

Wife CHEATS on husband 2 days after MARRIAGE

It never rains but pours for a man from Bulawayo’s Cowdry Park suburb after he caught his wife whom he had married two days earlier, having sex with another man.

Apart from busting his wife, Trinity Souza, the man identified as Oblige Mupereri got arrested after he gave the woman a bashing to remember. Souza and her husband have reportedly gone separate ways since the day.

It is said a day prior to busting Souza, Mupereri got a tip-off that his wife was seeing another man. He asked her about the alleged affair, but she dismissed it. Subsequently, Mupereri decided that he was going to be covert in seeking to unearth the affair.

On Thursday last week, Mupereri reportedly left home having told his wife that he will be coming back after a few days. Taking advantage of this, Souza invited her boyfriend for an all night sex session. As the two lovebirds were getting cosy, Mupereri returned in the wee hours of the morning. He is said to have found a car parked outside and on getting into the house, the man came across clothes on the floor, suggesting that some people were getting dirty.

The head of the house then went to the bedroom and what was before his eye was so shocking. There stood his wife of two days naked with another man. Before he could react, Souza’s boyfriend had taken off in a flash. As such, the man vented his anger at Souza. He is alleged to have bashed her with everything that he could throw at her.

The woman ran off and sought refuge at a nearby relative’s house. Mupereri followed her and gave her a second round of thrashing. Souza went on to report the matter to police, leading to his arrest.

The man was granted $100 bail by Western Commonage magistrate, Richard Ramaboea.

Tuesday, August 7, 2012 - Police in Bungoma County are looking for a bar maid who is alleged to have aborted her 7 months old foetus and abandoned her three children before fleeing.

The woman who works at a bar at Misikhu market appeared to be depressed before she went missing about 3 days ago. She was expecting another child and this was too much for her because she did not make enough money for the three children she had already.

Neighbors at a rental house where the woman stays became worried after the children stayed out of the house for two days. They decided to break into the house and were shocked by the foul smell when they opened the house’s door.

On inspecting the house, the neighbors found the foetus in a basin under a bed. John Mutaki a neighbor said the woman must have aborted the child before she ran away leaving her children at the doorstep.

The children have been transferred to an administration police camp in the area when they will be taken care of until a permanent solution is found.

A man hunt for the woman has been launched and police hope to flash her from her hideout to answer for charges of child neglect.
